What is blepharitis ?  What is the treatment for blepharitis?

Blepharitis is a very common condition that causes inflammation of eyelid margins.  This is cause by the accumulation of bacteria, oil and tissue on the eyelid margin.  This will often cause eye irritation, itchiness, burning, tearing, and crusting of the eyelids.   Treatment includes hot compresses and eyelid scrubs.  One’s eye doctor will often prescribe antibiotic ointment.

Treatment options:

Hot compresses 5-10 minutes one-two times per day

Eyelid scrubs with baby shampoo nightly

Topical antibiotic ointment or steroid combination
